Once a year, a ground-breaking, volunteer-driven, community-based initiative happens in Winnipeg. Service providers come together as a community to deliver essential, dignity-enhancing services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
End Homelessness Winnipeg initiated the first Gizhe Waa Ti-Sii-Win Service Delivery Expo in partnership with the Manitoba Financial Empowerment Network and agencies in the homelessness service sector in 2018. The event name, Gizhe Waa Ti-Sii-Win, aptly means “working with love, kindness and generosity for others” in the Ojibwe language. The first annual Service Delivery Expo took place at the Neeginan Centre. More than 500 guests attended, with help from more than 100 volunteers. The second annual Gizhe Waa Ti-Sii-Win took place at the Salvation Army Weetmah in May 2019. More than 700 guests participated in the second annual event.
The success of this growing event demonstrates the need in our community as well as the challenges individuals experiencing homelessness can face in accessing supports and services. Through collective action, we know we can positively impact and transform our community and sustain change.
The 2019 Expo was generously supported by community sponsors including:
