Starting in the Spring of 2019, The Winnipeg Boldness Project and End Homelessness Winnipeg facilitated a North End Housing Lab. The result, outlined in the Lab Report, is four key prototypes that form parts of a wholistic approach to housing in Winnipeg’s North End.
The prototypes are Indigenous-Led housing ventures; improvements to zoning and regulations; Indigenous models of housing; and social finance for housing development.
The lab centred the voices of people with lived experience and was guided at every step by an Indigenous Decision-Making Group, formed to provide insight and direction related to what was emerging through the lab process. The lab was made possible thanks to partnership from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, and the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council, as well as the lab’s Indigenous Decision-Making Group, The Winnipeg Boldness Project and End Homelessness Winnipeg.
