“Thirty local agencies supporting individuals to maintain safe, stable and affordable housing including Lighthouse Mission, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre and Siloam Mission will receive a total of more than $10 million over the coming year, funded by the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s homelessness strategy, it was announced Friday.
End Homelessness Winnipeg issued a call for proposals for funding in early November. By the deadline for applications on Jan. 3, 76 applications were received, totaling $29 million in requests, reflecting the significant level of need in the community. With $8.4 million in available funds, the Reaching Home Community Advisory Board, representing Indigenous, youth, community and housing organizations as well as individuals with lived experience of homelessness in Winnipeg, carefully reviewed each application for its alignment with Winnipeg’s Community Plan for Reaching Home funds. The Community Plan was developed through engagement with more than 200 individuals who have experienced homelessness in Winnipeg.”
